So, lately I’ve been trying to run more outside as opposed to exercising inside at the gym. This past week I went for a run on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Tuesday’s run was so challenging. Not only was the weather not the best, but my body was tired from Monday’s run. Half way through I started to get a cramp and all I wanted to do was stop and walk.
Although my body was ready to call it quits, something else was telling me to keep going in the direction of my finish line. “Just keep running, you can do it, don’t stop” were the words I kept telling myself.
Despite being tired and out-of-breath, I continued to run. I turned my music up louder, kicked my legs up higher, took wider strides, and continued on. I had a goal to get to a certain point and nothing was going to stop me.
As I continued to run, I got closer to my “finish line” and before I knew it, the end was in sight (in this case it was a certain intersection in the neighborhood). The second I saw the “finish line” from a distance, I said to myself “there’s nothing stopping me now, I got this.”
As I ran faster and faster to approach the finish line, I finally reached it.
And the moment I crossed the “finish line?” Well, you know how that feels. It’s the feeling of being on top of a mountain. It’s the feeling of knowing you can do and accomplish anything you want. And the truth is, you can.
My lesson for this week is simply this: You can do whatever you want. Whether it’s organizing a certain room in your house, losing X number of pounds, or accomplishing ABC goal, you can do it. Just keep going, even if it’s tough.
Over the course of the next week, I challenge you to “push forward” when you’re feeling like you’re ready to just stop and throw in the towel. Think about how good you’ll feel when you cross whatever “finish line” you’re striving for. Think about how good you’ll feel the next day when you can say “I got through that!”
Even if it’s the smallest thing like running an extra 10 minutes in my case or working an extra 30 minutes longer to finish a project, just keep going. And if it helps, know we are all in this together.
