I teach you how to get organized so you can THRIVE!

I hope you’re having a great week! I wanted to share a quick story with you on what happened last week when Tie (my sister) and the kids came over to my house. There’s a lesson at the end of the story.

Anyway, Tie came over at 10:30AM on Thursday morning last week to help pack lunches before we headed out the door for our sister bonding day.

While we were getting ready, I ran downstairs to the basement to get a few things and Nicholas (my nephew) followed me downstairs. The kids looooooove the basement because it’s open, carpeted, and that’s where they can run around with Mojo and the bouncy balls! It’s also where the door to the backyard is so they can run outside!

When we got downstairs, Nicholas said to me in the cutest 4-year old voice: “Why is there so much stuff everywhere? You don’t know where it belongs Aunt Hinder?”

Ok, first off, the basement has stuff everywhere right now. It’s a big mess. This past week, Ed and I installed new shelving down there and haven’t finished the project yet. And like I say, it’s always messy before it’s organized. Tomorrow’s project is “operation” finish organizing the basement!

Secondly, it’s so cute to hear kids ask questions so frankly. It’s like they’re not scared to say the truth to anyone.

Nicholas’ first thoughts on why I had clutter in the basement was that I didn’t know where things belonged, hence why stuff was everywhere out of place.

My question to you is, if a 4-year old came over to your house and saw a big mess and asked you “Why is it a mess in here? You don’t know where things belong?” – what would your response be?

More importantly, how does your response make you feel? Sometimes it’s helpful to stop and think about spaces you may have been avoiding from the outside perspective of a frank and honest 4-year old.

In my case, my basement looks like a tornado went through it right now because I’m in the middle of a project. However, if I weren’t in the middle of a project and my basement had stuff everywhere where you could barely walk, I really wouldn’t have a good excuse for the clutter.

So anyway, what is your excuse and how can you turn your excuse into a reason WHY you should get organized? What are some ways that you’ll use and enjoy the space once it’s organized? Once you find your reason why you want to get organized, then it will be much easier to be motivated to start. And starting is the hardest part.

Just something to think about.

Anyway, we had a great sister bonding day. Afterward, we came back home and ate home-made banana ice cream. Banana ice cream has been Ed’s and my go-to dessert lately. It’s ridiculously easy to make and oh so delicious and healthy!

Here’s how to make it if you’re curious:

  • Peel and cut bananas into 1″ slices.
  • Place them in a freezer storage container and freeze them overnight.
  • Pulse in high-speed blender for 10 seconds.
  • You now have instant banana ice cream (surprisingly enough, it’s almost the same consistency of real ice cream!!!).
  • Melt peanut butter in the microwave for 20 seconds.
  • Drizzle peanut butter on banana ice cream (you can also drizzle chocolate chips on top too!).
  • Enjoy! It’s so yummy and healthy!
