DIY Organization Ideas (Part 1)
Hi everyone. I’m Alejandra from Alejandra.TV. And in this video, I’m going to show you how to make your own organizing products with stuff you have already around the house or things that you might throw away, you might want to keep. I’m going to show you all the things that I made and just really how to get organized on a budget. So if you feel like you have to spend a lot of money to get organized, I’m going to show you that that’s not the case.

I’ve spent about two months making my own organizing products and I’m excited to share with you everything that I’ve created.
DIY Homework Caddy
The first thing I’ve created is a homework caddy for students.

A homework caddy is a place to keep all the supplies a student might need to get their homework done. So when they come home from school, they grab their homework caddy, they sit at the kitchen table or wherever they do their homework and they have everything in front of them with everything they might need.

To make the caddy I took a large shoebox and wrapped it in red duct tape, to make it really strong. Inside the box I took toilet paper rolls and I wrapped them in duct tape to create little pen and pencil caddies (they’re hot glue gunned to the bottom.) Along one of the longer sides I took an empty toothpaste box, and glued it to the bottom to store larger items like crayons, and a calculator. I also keep a pencil case in the bottom, and I clipped binder clips along the edge of the box. Also inside is a clam shell container (that once contained Command Strips) that stores my sticky notes. It’s a little sticky note organizer. I just took a few things that I had around the house and created something cool. So, the total cost was zero dollars.
DIY Pen & Pencil Caddy
The second thing I created was a DIY pen and pencil caddy. I took prescription bottles from around the house and covered them in pretty contact paper that matched the bottles. Next, I hot glue gunned the bottles together. And now, I have a pen and pencil caddy for the top of my desk. And it’s so cool. You can store a lot of things in it. and it was only the cost of some contact paper.

The next thing I created was a tea organizer. I went to my local beer and wine store and I asked if they had extra wine boxes (and they gave me a couple.) And so, I took one of the boxes that had dividers inside, and I cut the bottom off. I also cut the dividers to fit into the bottom of the box. Next, I covered the bottom of the box with white duct tape to make it nice and strong. Next, I hot glued the dividers to the bottom to create little spaces to organize and separate the different types of tea bags. And now, I can take this organizer & put it in a kitchen drawer and all of my teas are nice and visible. They’re so easy to access. When you have guests over, you can pull out the entire box to let your guests to pick the tea they want.
DIY Cord Wrap
The next thing I made was an idea I got from Robert Mahar from Kin Community. It’s perler bead cord wrap! Perler beads are little beads that you iron together. In the video Robert Mahar arranged his beads into a cookie which I thought was really fun. So then I made my own. And now I can take my earbuds and wrap them around the cookie to keep them tangle-free.
DIY Lazy Susan
So one of my favorite organizing products is a Lazy Susan because they spin nicely and make everything easy to find. They’re just great in pantries and cabinets. Sometimes they’re hard to find in store, and they’re expensive to buy. And if you live somewhere where you don’t have access to organizing products, you might not have access to this.
So I decided to make own and I’m really excited about this. I found two baking pans. They’re 8-inch baking pans from the Dollar Store. I also found a pack of marbles at the Dollar Store. I put all of the marbles in between the two pans. And now, I have a $3 DIY Lazy Susan made all by myself. Once I had all of the supplies, it literally took 10 seconds to put together and it’s just so fun!

As you can see, the marbles let the pan spin really nicely and smoothly. It’s seriously the simplest thing to make!
DIY Jewelry Organizer
The next thing I made was my very own jewelry organizer. I took a piece of wood, sanded it, and painted it pretty color. Then I sanded it again to make it look a little bit distressed. I also hammered nails and change in there to give it more of a distressed feel. Next I hammered in some nails to store rings & earrings. Then I hammered in a few larger nails for bulkier bracelets and stuff. And then I added hooks at the bottom (they’re called eye hooks) to store all of my necklaces. And now, I can just mount this inside my closet to detangle and store all of my jewelry in a cost-effective jewelry organizer.
DIY Craft Organizer
The next thing, I did was take an empty plastic wrap box from the kitchen, and took the blade off (the blade just like peels right off.) Next, I covered it in pretty contact paper. And then I found some little containers from the Dollar Store that fit perfectly inside. They fit nine to a box and it’s like they were just made to go inside this organizer. This organizer is great for craft supplies, offices, supplies, beads or anything small around the house. You can even put hardware in here and then store it in the garage. So, it’s just a cool little organizer for the cost of a dollar, and you can put a rubber band around it if you want to keep it shut.
DIY Mail Center
Then the next thing I made was a little mail center for the top of my desk. All I did was take three cereal boxes. I cut the boxes in half and wrapped them in duct tape, to make it durable. Next, I stapled the boxes together and added labels. Now I have a space to organize my bills, things to process, and things to call, ask, or cancel. go here. Aan easier way to do this, because I spent a lot of time cutting the boxes, it is to just use granola bar boxes since they’de all be the same size if you buy the same brand.
DIY Tackle Box
The last thing did was take a pizza box (you could totally do this with a smaller box) and I made my own tackle box with it. I found mini red cups from the Dollar Store, they come 20 for a dollar. I just Velcro-ed the cups down to the bottom of the box to create little sections. So now I have a place to store all of my labeling supplies.
The reason why I Velcro-ed the cups was so I can make the tackle box flexible. If you’re storing a bunch of small things one year, the next year, you might use this box to store bigger items. You can always take the cups out to create bigger sections, and you can always put them back when you need to store smaller items at a later time.
The DIY tackle box was fun to make. The cost was just the cups and then the Velcro. You can see from the photo that is kind of a big version, you can do the same thing with a smaller box.
So anyways, so this is part 1 of my do it yourself organizing products video. In the second part, I’m going to show you nine or ten other things that I created out of stuff I just have around the house. But it just goes to show that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on organizing products. If you get creative and think outside the box, you can still get organized. I hope you enjoyed this video.
