3 Tasks for a More Organized Bedroom
In the midst of decluttering, organizing, or tidying up the house, the bedroom is one of those spaces that can easily be forgotten about or de-prioritized. It’s usually upstairs where we go less frequently, it’s usually non-communal to the rest of the family, and guests are likely to never see the space.
That said, it’s easy to just shove clutter in hidden spots in the bedroom since there’s a good chance nobody will ever see it.
But it’s important to keep up with organizing the bedroom just as it’s important to keep up with washing the dishes!
The bedroom shouldn’t just be a place we go to pass out or hide clutter we don’t know what to do with. Instead, it should be our sanctuary for rest, relaxation, and love/connection! It should be a place we go to feel peace and unwind as the day comes to an end.
But it can be easy to walk into a messy bedroom and feel like there’s a million things to do and suddenly feel overwhelmed. But what would happen if you lowered your expectation that you have to organize everything (and organize it perfectly in one sitting!) and instead, you just focused on a few key areas? In other words, what if you just did a little bit at a time?
Here are some easy bedroom tasks for you to consider doing daily:
- Spend 10 minutes tidying up anything in the bedroom
- Clear one pile from the floor (one pile could be one bag, one box, one stack, etc.)
- Make your bed
- Put away 10 pieces of clothing that are on surfaces (dresser, chair, bed)
- Set aside 3 things you can bless others with (permanently get rid of)
- Deal with one thing you’ve been avoiding (something to return/exchange, a bill to pay, etc.)
- Quickly re-organize one drawer (no more than 5 minutes!)
- Spend 5 minutes advancing the laundry cycle (collecting it, tossing in the washer/dryer, folding, putting away)
What 3 things from above could you strive to do daily that would have a big impact on you feeling more peaceful in your bedroom?
Do any 3 of the above tasks for one day. And if it doesn’t get done, give it your all the next day and so on, and so on.
What you want to avoid doing is beating yourself up if you miss a day. Expect to miss a day. Expect to fall off!
And when it does happen, accept it and move on. It’s easy to waste so much energy dwelling on what we didn’t do or what didn’t go as “planned.” All you can do is do your best and keep moving forward! Don’t dwell; just move on.
