It’s officially been 10 months since 2017 started. Did you accomplish any of your organizing goals this year?
If yes, GREAT! KEEP GOING!
If not, there’s still time to make progress before the year ends…
If you wrote down your goals this year, here’s a reminder to pull them out and revisit them.
But if you never wrote anything down, that’s okay too. I guarantee you’re not alone.
Sometimes just saying the word “goal” can trigger negative emotions. Especially if you’ve never set goals in the past, have a history of not achieving your goals, or if others close to you have lost confidence in your abilities and love to remind you (jokingly or not) of your past failed attempts.
Whatever it is, let it be. The past is over and doesn’t determine your future. The only thing that matters is this moment right now and what you do going forward.
There are 60 days left this year. Or 86,400 minutes (roughly) if you look at it that way.
What could you do in the next 86,400 minutes that will allow you to end 2017 feeling more organized than you are today?
If you don’t know what it’s going to take for you to actually FEEL organized, start by asking yourself this key question.
After all, you could organize your entire house, but if you still don’t FEEL organized, the problem remains. Although if this is the case, the problem is likely not organizing-related.
Ask yourself what it’s going to take to feel organized and then start by setting your first goal. Your goal doesn’t have to be tackling the biggest project in your house. Or the hardest.
It could be the smallest thing like opening a box that’s been sitting around for years and simply observing what’s inside. Once observed, set a tiny goal to address three items. Or it could be, fill one bag of stuff to donate this season.
The key is to do something daily that will advance you in a forward direction regardless of how busy life feels or whatever problem is at the forefront.
Progress is progress no matter how you shape it.
Now, unless you live under a rock, we both know the holidays are ahead. Just this morning I heard a commercial on the radio talking about the “hectic!”, “frantic!” and “busy!” holiday season ahead. Yes, of course the holidays can be busy with family, gatherings, preparing, cooking, baking, decorating, shopping, presents, cards, etc.
But it’s all a choice of how frenzied we make the season!
Whatever your traditions are in your family, in the next two months make the time to do something your future self will be grateful you did today.
Remember, whether tiny or huge, progress is progress.
The only person that can do it is us. And we’re more powerful than we think we are.
Sending love as we all begin November,
Alejandra
