Makeup Storage & Organization

Hey everyone. I’m Alejandra from Alejandra.tv and in this video, I’m going to share with you how I’m organizing all my makeup and all the stuff on my bathroom counter that I use on a daily basis.

But first if you are looking to start getting organized, you can check out my free video series on my website Alejandra.tv.

Last year, I shared with you how I organized my makeup cart that had all of my makeup, my hair accessories and then some of the things that I use when I’m getting read in the morning.

Since then (I loved that system), I downsized my makeup collection and my hair stuff and got rid of probably half of the stuff. So I felt like I needed to change my system because the cart just looked so empty and it was kind of bothering me.

I’ve changed my systems and I’m going to share with you what I’ve done. This is my new makeup organizer that I’m using and I love it because it’s very compact and it has nice drawers.

The reason I downsized my makeup collection is because I felt like I had a lot of stuff I was holding on to that I was only using on special occasions. I just decided that since I pretty much wear the same makeup every single day (if I do wear makeup), there’s no point in saving things that I use on such a rare occasion.

I got rid of a lot of stuff and I just feel so much better after downsizing and just only holding on to what I really need and use. So this is the makeup organzing system that I use now. It’s actually a jewelry organizer, made for jewelry but you can do makeup in it like I’ve done in this video.

Organizing Makeup by Category

I’ve categorized everything into brushes, face stuff, eyes, liners, cheeks, lips and then specialty. Specialty is like stuff I wear on a special occasion (like for a big event or something).

But basically, let me show you what’s inside each drawer. First their are the brushes, I just have four brushes. The next drawer has my face stuff, foundation, bronzer etc.. In my ‘eyes’ drawer I keep all my eye shadows. The ‘liners’ drawer includes eye liners, lip liners and mascara. Then for anything that can make a mess – like my eyeliner where the cap always comes off and the eyeliner always leaks, whenever I bring it somewhere (or I just leave it here after using it) I put it inside a little baggie so it doesn’t make a mess.

I also have drawers for cheeks, lips, and then specialty. So I really don’t have that much stuff. I feel like half the drawers are empty. But now that there’s not that much stuff, it’s easy to open the drawer and close the drawer and it’s easy to find exactly what I’m looking for. I labeled each drawer with a nice, big clear label with white font so it looks so beautiful.

The makeup organizer hangs out right on the side of my bathtub. You might be thinking, “Well, doesn’t it get wet because of the bathtub?” It doesn’t get wet. It also doesn’t get dusty inside because it has drawers that kind of closes them off.

Ideally, I would have put it on a little table. But we are getting ready to move and that got knocked off the priority list once we’ve decided to move. So that didn’t happen.

I use a small bag to keep all of my hair accessories, like my hair bands, bobby pins, headbands, claws and stuff and everything together. It just kind of gets tossed inside the bag and so I can find what I need, grab it, and throw it back in when it’s no longer in use.

The bag hangs out right on top of my makeup organizer. That is how I’m organizing all my makeup and hair accessories now. So now, let me show you how I’m organizing all the stuff on top of my bathroom counter.

Bathroom Counter Organization

To keep the counter clear and organized, I used to have a pretty basket and it had all the stuff I use on a daily basis. I felt like everything was just getting tossed inside that basket and it wasn’t staying very organized. It was functional but it wasn’t very organized.

So I found an acrylic organizer. I switched to this about six months ago when I did the whole makeup purge and I love it. We’ve been using this for a while. It’s just a simple three-drawer acrylic organizer that stays right on the bathroom counter. It’s puttied down, so it doesn’t move, and it just has daily stuff inside, so like toothpaste, floss, face lotion, tweezers, scissors, matches for the candle. Mojo’s drawer has a toothbrush, her toothpaste, a comb, scissors. The bottom drawer has occasional stuff, like Band-Aids, and two makeup things that didn’t fit in my makeup organizer (the drawers weren’t wide enough).

But anyway, it just stays right the counter. It’s closed off, so it’s not going to get wet from the sink right next to it. It’s not going to get dirty, dusty or anything and I puttied it down so it doesn’t move or slide or anything. Then when we’re cleaning, we just clean around the actual organizer and every once in a while I will pick it up and clean behind it.

It’s just simple. It works. It’s out of the way. It’s clear. I can see what’s inside and it’s awesome. It’s working. So I will put a link to this below. I will put a link to my makeup organizer below and yeah, just wanted to share with you what we’re doing in our bathroom to stay organized and keep things out of their way.
