How to organize coupons by expiration date with creative professional organizer Alejandra Costello
How to Organize Coupons
Hi everyone. It’s Alejandra. And I’m here in my home office. And today, I’m going to show you how to organize your coupons. So recently, I worked with a new client. We were working to declutter her kitchen and her pantry. And she asked me because we came across like piles of coupons in drawers, on counters, she asked me, “What’s the best way to store coupons?”
So I was telling her that I use a poly envelope like this. It’s not the full size but it’s half size. And I get it from Staples – either Staples or Office Depot and it’s like $7.99. But I get it and I label each of the 12 tabs, January through December and I file all my coupons by expiration date.
So if a coupon expires May 31st, I put it in the May section. And then at the end of the month, I take everything that I didn’t use or I forgot to use and then I recycle it, shred it, trash it, what have you. And then in the beginning of the new month, I look at that section and I see, “OK. I need to use these coupons this month.” And I’ll either put them in my wallet, put them on my desk, put them in the car. There’s not too much maintenance. You’re not shuffling through a stack of coupons that you need to use for the grocery store and figuring out when they expire or if they’ve already expired.
So I would highly recommend using a poly envelope to store your coupons and then file them by expiration date.
