The Mindset Required to Get Organized

For the longest time I never knew just how large of a role your mindset plays in how organized and productive we are. Our mindset in getting organized (or the lack thereof) can make or break our success and determine whether we’re on top of things, or a complete mess. I’m going to warn you – this post is a little heavier than many others, includes a little tough love, and may make you stop and think – but it might be just what you need this week.

Today - Another Chance To Get It Right (The Mindset Required to Get Organized)

What Are You Waiting For?

Many times we decide that since we need a break, because we cheated on our diet, or because we missed a day at the gym, that we can write off today as a total failure. And while we’re at it, we might as well cross off the rest of the week since the weekend is so close.

Then we’ll just pick back up on Monday.

Everyday Is Monday

Stop waiting for Monday for another chance to get it right, to get back on track, or to start fresh. We all have our setbacks and failures, no matter how big or small. Whether it’s organizing, exercising, being productive at work, or any other task; we’ve all had times when we felt like giving up. When we give up or focus on our failures and frustrations, we setup a mental block that insulates our minds from focusing on the task. When we stop focusing our mind on the tasks we have to do, we lose all momentum and our progress comes to a screeching halt. This is why keeping a positive mindset focused on the current task at hand, working toward our larger goal, is so important to our success in achieving that goal!

We Are A Result Of Our Thoughts

All that we are and all that we experience is a result of what we’ve thought in our minds. Therefore, when we procrastinate, we are basically deciding to postpone experiencing our ideal lives. But for how long? When will we pick back up and work on our goals? Everyone needs a break every once in a while, but what matters is how soon we pick ourselves back up and continue where we left off.

Have you ever heard of the quote, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today”? It applies to everything including getting organized. We all fail. The most successful people are those who failed the most, learned from their mistakes, and applied their lessons learned to their next endeavors. Even when we fail, tomorrow is another day, another opportunity. And when tomorrow comes, it becomes today.

Today is here, NOW, and it’s time to give it everything you’ve got. Start TODAY, because all that matters is what you’re doing RIGHT NOW. What’s wrong with NOW?

Disorganization Stands Between You & Your Ideal Life

When you’re disorganized you’re distracted. Clutter is noise that demands your attention. It prevents you from being productive. Clutter causes you to show up late, to avoid having guests over, to search for missing items repeatedly, and to to pay bills late (plus late fees). Clutter then causes feelings of frustration, overwhelm, lethargy, and shame. When you don’t feel well, you’re unable to work effectively on your goals. Since your goals are what lead you to your ideal life, clutter is standing directly between you and your ideal life. How long will you allow clutter to steal your dreams?

Dreams Are Images Of Your Completed Goals

There’s probably a gap between what your life currently is and what you’d like it to be. That’s completely normal. We all have great dreams. Dreams are mental images of the results of your completed goals. If you’re not dreaming of what your ideal life looks like, then you’re bound to live in your current conditions and nothing will change. And why would it without hard work? So what have you done to work toward your goals? Better yet, what will you do starting now?

Your Efforts Right NOW Affect The Rest Of Your Life

What kind of life do you really want? I’m not kidding. Stop right now and think about what kind of life you have always dreamt of living… It’s OK, I’ll wait…Now write it all down. Then write down what it’ll take to get there. Break each goal into the smallest tasks. Then each day, grab a few of these tasks and start crossing them off so that you’re working toward your goals – toward that life that you’ve always wanted.

Focus Is The Key

No one else is going to hand your ideal life to you. The harsh reality is that you’re going to have to make it happen yourself through your mindset and actions. But if you start small, keep your thoughts laser-focused on your ideal life, and never stop working toward your goals, you have no other option but to achieve your dreams.

So start TODAY. Start NOW – RIGHT NOW!

Chances are… you realized a long time ago that clutter has played a negative (maybe even costly) role in your life. But for some reason your efforts to get organized, and take control of your life, have been short-term solutions at best.

And it’s no wonder. You see, most people misunderstand clutter entirely. They see it as a problem to overcome when, in fact, clutter is the result of deeper challenges and mindset disruptions. Disorganized people never realize that clutter can be physical or mental – and in most cases, both. That’s why you can’t simply clean your house, office, or car and assume you’re organized.

Real organization comes from following systems and routines.

If you’ve tried multiple times to get organized, and failed, then it’s time to start at the beginning.
